Wooler is a small friendly town at the gateway to the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park in the south west of Berwick District; it sits in scenic (Glen Dale) Glendale and is a 15 minute drive from our Northumberland cottages at Fenton Hill. It is also the inspiration for the character Postman Pat.
The town can cater for most of your daily needs for shopping and socialising. It has a selection of small specialist shops including grocery stores, good traditional butchers, bakeries, an excellent outdoor shop for women www.gearforgirls.co.uk and the Good Life Delicatessen for specialist cheeses, organic and wholesome products. Coffee is freshly ground in the shop and there is a gift selection with an emphasis on locally produced items. www.goodlifewooler.co.uk Wooler with its backdrop of the Cheviot Hills also has good coffee shops and places to eat including Breeze, the Tankerville Arms and Milan Restaurant which offers Italian inspired cuisine and a range of local fish, chicken, vegetarian and meat dishes. The Milan is perfect for an early evening meal with the family or for a special meal. Wooler Tourist Information Centre in the Cheviot Centre is open each day from Easter to the end of October and on weekends through the winter for any advice needed. There is a computer suite in the Cheviot Centre with broadband that is very cheap to use whenever the centre is open.
The landscape around Wooler offers some of the most exhilarating walks in Northumberland; you will find many routes for these along with a good selection of tourist information in your Northumberland self-catering accommodation at Fenton Hill. |
